Synchrotron X-ray microtomographic datasets of the mayfly Massartella aurora, described in Cortes et al. (2026). The datasets comprise a full-body scan of a nymph and a scan of the abdominal tip of an imago, acquired at the MOGNO beamline of Sirius, the synchrotron light source of the Brazilian Synchrotron Light Laboratory (LNLS). The effective pixel sizes were 2.37 µm for the nymph and 1.717 µm for the imago abdomen. To capture the complete nymph specimen, five vertically overlapping height steps were acquired.
The original 32-bit tomographic reconstructions were converted to 8-bit datasets. All datasets were aligned and cropped, and the individual nymph volumes were registered and merged into a single continuous volume.
