The ‘Generational Differences’ interviews consist of 107 transcripts of 102 interviews with study participants from 1967 and 1968, which were conducted and transcribed as part of the ‘Bonn Longitudinal Study of Ageing’. While the audio recordings have largely been lost, the transcripts of these interviews are stored in the digital archive of the Historical Data Centre of Saxony-Anhalt. They are published in the Radar repository as digital copies of the original transcripts (PDF) and as OCR-recognised and subsequently partially edited text versions (RTF). In addition to the individual interview available here, there is a comprehensive data set documenting the data [https://dx.doi.org/10.22000/te4k5zuw84j9p4m7] with supplementary contextual information. The data has been anonymised and pseudonymised. The interviews focus in particular on the perceptions of the parent and grandparent generation towards young people (the children's generation) and their memories of their own youth. Attitudes towards young people, life satisfaction and old age are discussed, with an in-depth comparison of the living conditions of the different generations. Participants were also asked about parenting practices and views with regard to their own childhood and the upbringing of their own children. Aspects of gender-specific parenting are explicitly addressed.
