This dataset contains the post-processed output of the ICON model simulations used in the study, “Cloud-Radiative Impact on the Dynamics of Extratropical Cyclones during NAWDEX”, which examines how cloud-radiative heating (CRH) and associated uncertainties affect the dynamics of four extratropical cyclones observed during the 2016 NAWDEX field campaign.
A set of numerical simulations was performed during four NAWDEX intensive observation periods (IOPs 3, 4, 6 and 7), each associated with the evolution of an extratropical cyclone. This set of simulations includes those with CRH (the reference/McICA_Fu simulations), as well as those in which CRH was either disabled ('Clouds-Off') or modified using different radiation schemes (McICA-Baran, TripleCLD-Fu and RRTM).
The dataset provides the processed ICON output fields that were used for most of the analysis and figure generation in the associated publication. It contains ICON data remapped onto a regular 1° × 1° latitude–longitude grid in NetCDF format. Each simulation has been archived separately, corresponding to specific IOPs and radiation configurations, as indicated by the archive filenames and summarised in the simulation table.
